The commencement of the 2019 school year brings more than the usual level of excitement for the Distance Education Centre Victoria as, this year, we celebrate our name change to Virtual School Victoria.
We’ve come a long way in developing quality virtual learning. Our new name reflects our continued focus on harnessing technologies to allow real-time, authentic and rich learning for our more than 4,000 students.
The launch of Virtual School Victoria has been four years in the making. We’ve re-written 274 subjects for the virtual environment and we’re developing 18 new VCE subjects to give students in rural and regional Victoria access to the full range of options.
We’re helping our students and teachers connect, collaborate and learn through new online and face-to-face options. We are enhancing their education experience and making sure the geographically isolated, disengaged and vulnerable, gifted and talented, and those with special needs have the same opportunities to excel as other Victorian students.
As the largest virtual learning school in the state, we have a significant role to play across the education system.
Over the coming months, we will launch Virtual School Victoria’s new look and feel, and key information about the role of virtual and blended learning in today’s education system. I look forward to sharing more of the Virtual School Victoria story with you as the year progresses.
