Year 9 Mathematics


Overview

This is an online course that will extend your knowledge of Maths that you have covered in previous years. The three broad areas of study are:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • probability and statistics.

Within these areas, you will be introduced to new topics such as Trigonometry and Pythagoras’ Theorem that are based on right angled triangles. There are many careers that stem from this knowledge, such as architects and builders.

The course is delivered online, and includes written examples and videos to help you with your understanding. Remember that your teachers are always very happy to assist you.

What do you do?

There are a range of activities that you will be completing. For example:

  • online quizzes
  • topic worksheets
  • projects related to real world situations
  • activities requiring the use of technology
  • semester tests.

You will also interact with your class mates in regular online lessons and forum posts.

What skills do you develop?

You will continue to develop your numeracy skills for everyday life by studying study financial maths. You will learn mathematical processes to solve routine questions such as solving equations. Throughout the course you will use technology in a range of activities, for example, using GeoGebra for graphing. You will apply your knowledge to solve real world problems when completing your projects.


Requirements

 

You will need access to a scientific calculator and the internet.
