P-6 Subschool

The P- 6 subschool

The P-6 Subschool offers primary students a supportive, structured approach to learning.

Our courses incorporate the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and are delivered through a range of communication technologies including print, audio, video and computers. The caring, experienced teachers provide students with learning programs that cater for specific individual needs.

For further information about courses and learning programs in the P-6 subschool, you can email the P-6 student manager.

Courses available

In planning learning programs, the P-6 subschool has set out to provide well-balanced, comprehensive and interesting units for our students.

Catering for the wide range of circumstances and locations of our students has not been an easy task. There may be times when particular activities are not appropriate for some situations. We encourage supervisors to liaise with the class teacher and adapt the activities to suit individual situations.

Our courses are constantly being reviewed, revised and rewritten so that they are compliant with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development's guidelines.

Many of the P-4 courses have been developed using an integrated curriculum approach. This means that all or most Domains are covered in one unit of study. Children do not naturally think in terms of separate subjects but tend to have a more holistic view of the world. The integrated curriculum approach makes learning more relevant and meaningful. It capitalises on children's experiences, assisting them to a greater understanding of the world.

The Years 5 and 6 English Across The Curriculum courses also use an integrated curriculum approach. Experience has shown this gives meaning and purpose to English language activities. Students develop and demonstrate their understanding of the topics through reading, writing, speaking and listening activities. Aspects of Health and Physical Education,  HumanitiesCivics and Citizenship, Design, Creativity and Technology and other Domains are incorporated in the units where appropriate. Acknowledging the need for students to develop an increasing understanding of Australia, many units at both Year 5 and Year 6, cover aspects of this.
