Years 11-12

The 11-12 subchool offers a unique and independent learning program designed to meet the needs of students wishing to satisfy the requirements of the final years of Secondary education in Victoria.

Learning technologies and our experienced and dedicated teachers allow students to learn in a challenging, caring and supportive environment.

At present, the majority of students in the subschool are aiming to complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

Students may also enrol for the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

There are now four Vocational and Educational Training (VET) subjects also delivered by the DECV, which can be incorporated into a VCE or VCAL program.

VCE

The VCE is the single qualification which marks the completion of senior high school. The VCE can be used as a credential for entry to employment and for promotion, or to qualify for selection into a university, or college, or Technical and Further Education (TAFE) course.

Normally, full-time school age students will undertake VCE course over two years - Years 11 and 12. Each subject involves four Units.

Full information on Courses available at the DECV can be found in the Years 7-12 Course Information Booklet. Students/schools considering enrolling should access the Secondary Schools Enrolment Booklet. Both also contains information on eligibility, contributions and enrolment forms. Adult students considering VCE study should access the TAFE Adult Course Information booklet.

Handbooks/enrolment forms can be found in the Enrolment section of this site.

Below is a listing of subject Units available at the DECV in 2008. You can follow linked subjects to find out more information, and to view the first weeks of the course.

VCAL

VCAL is a hands-on senior certificate for students who wish to take a vocational rather than academic pathway. It is an alternative to the VCE.

VCAL students will undertake studies in a range of strands including Literacy and Numeracy, Work Related Skills, Industry Specific Skills and Personal Development Skills. VCAL programs can be made up of specific VCAL Units, VCE Units and VET certificates.

Individual counselling and advice is essential before undertaking VCAL with the DECV in order to ensure that the course requirements are being met.

For course or program enquiries, please email:

VET

The DECV offers four VET subjects which can be included as part of a VCE or VCAL program. The DECV is a Registered Training Organisation.

You can choose a VCE VET program as part of your VCE. This means that you will be undertaking training in a specific vocational area, for instance hospitality, agriculture, information technology, and engineering or in one of many other vocational areas.

As part of your training you would complete a work placement that provides you with the opportunity to put your knowledge and skills into practice.

This training will contribute towards satisfactory completion of your VCE and it will give you a nationally recognised vocational qualification. The vocational qualification will provide you with access to further training, for instance at a TAFE institute, and may improve your chances of getting work when you leave school.

For enquiries regarding VET subjects or course programs, please email:
