Eligibility for P- 6 students

Are you are resident of Victoria?

A resident is a person with a permanent, residential address in Victoria.

If you are a resident and fit within the enrolment guidelines you may be eligible to study with the DECV.  If you are a resident travelling overseas, interstate or within Victoria you are eligible to apply.

If you are a temporary resident you will have to pay a tuition fee in addition to the normal service contribution.  Please contact the DECV directly to determine the exact costs.

Enrolment Categories

There are four enrolment categories for years P-6.

1 Distance Students physically distant from local schools

4 Traveller students who are unable to attend or access regular schools because they are travelling

Specific criteria must be met in each category.

For full criteria, procedures, course outlines and materials charges,

General enrolment instructions

Step 1 Determine which category you are enrolling under, for example, “Travel” category.
If you are not sure of this, contact the DECV enrolment unit.

Step 2 Obtain the necessary documentation required, for example, if you are enrolling under the “Medical” category you will need to send the relevant medical report, a GP’s or a Psychologist’s report to the Regional Director of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for approval before you can enrol with the DECV.

Step 3 Once the Regional Director has given you a letter of approval or an approval number; attach a copy of that letter or note the approval number on the application form.

Step 4 Include with the enrolment form your contribution charge of $150 or the reduced amount if you attach a copy of your Health Care Card.

Step 5 A copy of your child’s birth certificate is required. For Prep year level enrolments, a copy of the student’s immunisation certificate is also required.

Step 6 Remember: Get your approval first; attach a copy of that written approval to the enrolment form.

HOME SCHOOLING : (This is NOT a category for enrolment)

This is where the family takes the responsibility to teach their children at home.

Home schooling should not be confused with enrolling at the Distance Education Centre Victoria.

The Education and Training Reform Act 2006 came into effect on Sunday, 1 July 2007.  The Act provides for the registration, by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), of students of compulsory school age undertaking home schooling.

In accordance with this commitment, core subject material from Prep to Year 10 is now available for purchase from the DECV. This is in print form only and on a cost recovery basis, to registered home schoolers of compulsory school age. Note, there is no teacher support or educational feedback on purchased material

Access to these materials is subject to compliance with copyright requirements and verification of the child's registration with the VRQA.

Information regarding the home schooling registration process for compulsory school age students can be found on the VRQA website at: http://www.vrqa.vic.gov.au/default.htm

Cost of Materials: $150 per year level or $75 for one semester.

Contact the DECV Enrolment Manager for a “Purchase of Materials” application form.
