STUDENTS IN A REGULAR SCHOOL (using DECV to study individual subjects)

All enrolments for students from regular schools must come via the student's home school.

Any School wanting to enrol their students in a DECV program will first need to get approval from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) Regional General Manager. Once that approval has been received, the completed enrolment form should be sent to the DECV together with the appropriate fees.

Schools must fill out all relevant sections of the enrolment application as well as nominating a school supervisor and have the Principal endorse the application. Principals must sign and endorse each application request otherwise the forms will be returned.

The application form is a tax invoice and no further invoices will be sent to requesting schools.

Enrolment and Census Arrangements for 2009

Students undertaking a combination of school based and distance education studies may need to be counted by their base school as a part-time student consistent with the latest Departmental Guidelines for School Census – Counting Students for Statistical Returns.
Enrolment can be for a semester or for an entire year’s study of a subject(s).

For full criteria, procedures, course outlines and materials charges,
please download the Students in Schools enrolment handbook
from the Handbooks and Forms page.

General enrolment procedures

Step by Step enrolment instructions:

Step 1 Determine which category you are enrolling under, for example, “Travel” category.  If you are not sure of this, contact the DECV enrolment unit.

Step 3 Once the Regional Director has sent you a letter of approval; attach a copy of that letter to the application form.

Home Schooling Information

HOME SCHOOLING : (This is NOT a category for enrolment)

This is where the family takes the responsibility to teach their children at home.

Home schooling should not be confused with enrolling at the Distance Education Centre Victoria.

Parents wanting to home school a child are required to register the child with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority.

The Education and Training Reform Act 2006 came into effect on Sunday, 1 July 2007.  The Act provides for the registration, by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), of students of compulsory school age undertaking home schooling.

In accordance with this commitment, core subject material from Prep to Year 10 is now available for purchase from the DECV. This is in print form only and on a cost recovery basis, to registered home schoolers of compulsory school age. Note, there is no teacher support or educational feedback on purchased material

Access to these materials is subject to compliance with copyright requirements and verification of the child's registration with the VRQA.

Information regarding the home schooling registration process for compulsory school age students can be found on the VRQA website at: http://www.vrqa.vic.gov.au/default.htm

Cost of Materials: $150 per year level or $75 for one semester.

Contact the DECV Enrolment Manager for a “Purchase of Materials” application form.
