Mission Statement

FLEXIBLE LEARNING FOR ALL

We are the leading providers of primary and secondary distance education.

Our personalised learning support ensures local and global access to the highest quality flexible education.

Our students engage, enjoy and excel.

The Distance Education Centre, Victoria (DECV) is a P-12 school providing flexible
educational services for people who, for varying reasons, require tuition other than face-to face teaching. The P-12 school currently caters for approximately 1000 full-time students and 1800 part-time students. For full-time students, the DECV is the sole educational provider.

The DECV operates within a rapidly changing educational world. The School takes account of its changing client needs and integrates new Information and Communication
Technologies (I&CT) into its teaching programs. It provides services to students and schools in the context of key Government policies, initiatives and directions. The School maintains strong Pastoral Care Programs for all its students.

STRATEGIC PLAN 2007-2010

The Distance Education Centre, Victoria believes that all students can profit and learn from distance education and grow in self-confidence and esteem as they:

• become independent and self-extending learners
• achieve success in the curriculum, particularly in literacy and numeracy
• acquire decision-making, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and
• develop self-discipline and demonstrate an ability to commit themselves to completing
and submitting set work and extra activities on a regular basis.

The DECV has an excellent record in the provision of learning programs to the Victorian
community over many years and is extremely proud of its long history of commitment to
Victorian students. It is well positioned to take advantage of opportunities utilising new
Information and Communication Technologies to ensure that high-quality programs are
delivered to students in the most effective ways.

The DECV provides full time learning programs or individual subjects to students directly where these students are not enrolled in schools. It also provides services to school students who wish to access particular subjects additional to the available program for students in their district.
