Teams and teachers

The DECV is organised around a team based model.

As well as teachers being grouped within subschools, other teaching teams exist to cover the wide variety of reponsibilities associated with any school and especially the unique challenges associated with distance learning.

So as well as teams based around Pastoral Care, Student Wellbeing and Curriculum Development., teachers may be involved in the Online Teaching Support Team or the J Team (responsible for teacher support in the online delivery management system).

Student population

Students can enrol at the DECV throughout the year to study either full time or part-time. Currently, there are approximately 2,600 students enrolled at the DECV. These students are studying more that 8,500 subjects. This will grow, especially at Years 7-10, to almost 3000 students in total as the year progresses.

We have a large number of part-time students, including adults. Mostly these enrol to complete the VCE. Students at other government as well as non-government schools can study with the DECV whilst still being enrolled at their local school. These students make up about 60% of our VCE enrolment.

Many students who can't attend school study with us. These students are referred to the DECV from other schools. Approximately a quarter of our students have medical reasons for enrolling at the DECV. Interstate and overseas travellers make up the next largest group.

Others who undertake their studies with the DECV are inmates, students who live a long distance from their nearest school and adults returning to study who need the flexibility that the DECV offers.
